Color Trends 2012/2013

I thought I’d switch it up a bit and share with you guys something that was shared with me by a coworker.  Being in the design industry, in any facet, it is important to know what is trending in color, texture, shape, and form.  Pantone is one of the top color forecasting sources.  The company created a color matching system for print, paint, fabrics, and plastics.  They deal mostly with print, but as it turns out that usually translates to interiors and to fashion.  So basically, in the design world, they are really important.

The article is by a fellow wordpress blogger Kimberly Latimer from www.myhomefacelift.com regarding the new colors and trends this fall and winter.

Also by Kimberly – She shares Benjamin Moore’s color forecast for the year.  Which I personally am very fond of the “Protection” pallet. :)

Dr. J Caldwell, part II

As promised, here are a few more from the January shoot with J :)

xoxo

Dr. J Caldwell

J, oh J. What can I say? I think I love the dude. This batch is from January.  There are so many. I couldn’t possibly put them all up at once. So I might have to make an extra special double feature Dr. J Caldwell blog postathon.  Just for the January pics. I’ll have to do something even more extra special for the next batch that we took on April Fools day :)  But those will come later. for now, enjoy.  xoxo

Corey Ward

Corey Ward (http://coreyward.me/), a photographer from Austin Texas visited recently. He was traveling with model Echo Nittolitto (http://www.echonittolitto.com/) They are both amazing, talented people! Emily Loren Huntsinger came and shot with Corey and I at my apartment, we had a great time.  We relaxed, shot, ate quesadillas, and listened to music all afternoon. :)

Recent Design Work

I work in a photography studio, so lucky for me all my work gets photographed!

Joe Odell

I met Joe Odell a few months ago, he’s fairly new to the photography scene but not to the industry. Joe is a former model, and has lived in many different places here in US and a few places internationally.  He is a great person, and a great photographer and has fantastic stories to tell. He grows in talent and experience every time he shoots. I am happy to help and encourage him, and I have made a new friend in the process.

Erik Danielson

I shot with Erik Danielson in January of this year. He is awesome, not only a good photographer but a genuinely cool person.  My longtime friend Abby Jarrett was my hair stylist, makeup artist, and wardrobe stylist. :)

Marcus Hyde

I had the pleasure of working with Marcus Hyde and Kelly Farlow in November of last year.  I traveled to Richmond to stay the night and shoot and hang out and explore the city a little bit.

New Year!

Isn’t it funny how things work out? Last year had so many emotional ups and downs for me.  I went through a roller coaster of anger, stress, sadness, depression, neglect, insecurity and a what small moments of happiness I did have….looking back now I realize that those moments were always cut short by a certain someone who couldn’t help but destroy good moments with his own jealousy, self hate, and insecurity. I am happy now to be on my own again, in an apartment that i love (except the awkward stairs that force me to buy either small furniture or furniture that comes in pieces.) with one of my very best friends.  I am young, I am creative, I am imaginative, and have discovered now that I am much more ambitious without him. He asked me while dropping off his key to what once was our apartment, “If this was the last time you ever saw me, what would you want to say to me?” I know the answer to that now. I would say “I hope you get better, and thank you for teaching me what it feels like to be treated badly, so when I find someone good I can appreciate their love and support.”

The Vintage Nest was the best part of last year. With my friend and partner Katie Butler, we created things out of practically nothing and people actually bought them.  We learned so much, about our products, our techniques, and about ourselves and what we were capable of.  It was a small taste of what it would be like to own our own business and it was a blast.  Thank you Kit Rodenbough at Design Archives for allowing us to be a part of your amazing store and for all your encouragement and advice.  Our lives have become much different than they were a year and half ago when we started, they have changed for the better for both us.  So with those changes, we had to make a few sacrifices such as moving out of Design Archives at the end of January.  However, I don’t think either of us will be able to resist picking up more great pieces at thrift stores, from friends, and off the side of the road. Its an addiction. So if you are a fan of the Vintage Nest on Facebook, please continue to check our page for updates on what we are working on and selling :)

So that being said, 2012 is going to be a fresh start for me. My job is still pretty awesome (most days haha), I am healthy, I have a roof over my head, fantastic, fun friends who are always around to support me and I for them, and I have an amazing family…ahmazing. Who wouldn’t be able to smile about that? Oh! And I signed with a modeling agency this past week and am frequently test shooting with great photographers, which happens to be one of my favorite things to do.  I am an interior designer, a model, and I’m very handy. I’m proud of the things that I create whether it be a room, a photo, a piece of furniture, or art.  I’m so grateful for the things that I have and the things that I have accomplished. I’m not even 25 yet and I have a good idea of where I’m heading in the next 5 years and that feels great.

So thank you to all of you who look at my blog and show love and support for my work, it means a lot. :)

Love, Melissa
